Description:

Árbol siempreverde, de hasta 30m de altura y 1m de diámetro. Tronco recto, cilíndrico, corteza gris, arrugada y con fisuras longitudinales y transversales bien marcadas (foto derecha). Hojas compuestas imparipinadas, opuestas, coriáceas, entre cada foliolo y a ambos lados del raquis tienen alitas triangulares que dan a cada par una forma romboidal (foto abajo); en la base de las hojas hay dos estípulas caedizas. Lámina de 3-8 x 2-3cm, foliolos de 0,8-1,6 x 0,8-1cm, de borde aserrado. Flores hermafroditas pequeñas, blancas, reunidas en racimos cilíndricos (foto derecha). Pedicelos pubescentes de 1,5-3mm de largo. Cáliz compuesto por 4-5 sépalos imbricados; corola compuesta de 3-5 pétalos. Androceo con 8-10 estambres. Gineceo de ovario súpero con 2 estilos de estigmas blancos. El fruto es una cápsula coriácea, obovada, bipartida coronada por los 2 estilos, que en el otoño se pone de color rojo vinoso de gran vistosidad, de 6-8 x 2mm, se abre por su parte media, entre los estilos. Semillas elipsoides algo curvas, café muy claro, erizadas de pelos blancos bien esparcidos, muy pequeñas de 1,2 x 0,8mm.
<b>Usos:</b> Ornamental. La madera es hermosa pero muy dura. La corteza machacada se utiliza como cicatrizante y también como curtiembre. Las flores, ricas en néctar, producen una miel de muy buen sabor.

Weinmannia trichosperma (Tineo), is a evergreen tree in the family of Cunoniaceae, it is native to Chile and Argentina: 35 to 47°S. endemic to laurel forest habitat.
Grows up to 30 m (100 ft) high. It has a straight trunk up to 1 m (3 ft) in diameter and gray, fissured bark. The leaves are imparipinnate and opposite. Between the leaflets there are triangular wings giving each pair a rhomboid outline. There are two deciduous stipules at the base of the leaves. The leaves are about 3–8 cm long and 2–4 cm wide, and the leaflets are 0.6–1.6 cm long and 0.6–1.0 cm wide and toothed. The foliage tends to be sparse and spread out.
The flowers are hermaphrodite, small, white and clustered in racemes. The calyx is made up of 4–5 imbricate sepals; the corolla has 3–5 composite petals; the androecium has 8-10 stamens; the gynoecium has a superior ovary with 2 carpels and white stigmas.
The fruit is a leathery obovate capsule which is divided in two. In autumn the capsule turns bright red, and is 6–9 mm long and 2 mm wide. It opens in the middle between the styles. The seeds are ellipsoid, light brown, with scattered white hairs and small: 1 mm long and 0.6 mm wide.
<b>Uses<b/>: The bark can be used to tan leather. W. trichosperma is used as an ornamental tree in Chile. The flowers are used by introduced European bees to make a delicious honey. The wood is very beautiful and hard. It thrives in cool and moist climates, and it succeeds as an ornamental in Northern Ireland, Scotland, some parts of England and in the North Pacific Coast of the United States.

Habitat:

Tineo crece desde el Maule hasta la península de Taitáo (VI a XI región), también en Argentina. Habita en sitios húmedos.

Notes:

Este especimen es recién un arbusto creciendo a la orilla del camino, junto a cientos de otros, compitiendo para convertirse en árboles de 30 metros.
