Dusky-faced Tanager

Mitrospingus cassinii

Description:

It measures 18.5 cm. and weighs 42 grams. The bill is rather long and pointed, the eyes are pale and dark color makes it look like an icterid.

Habitat:

Caribbean lowlands Costa Rica, but is also found in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Venezuela

Notes:

They forage by jumping over branches, peck twigs, check into the foliage, introduced the bill among dead leaves rolled in search of beetles, grasshoppers, katydids, caterpillars, other insects and spiders. Also feed on berries of Melastomataceae, Rubiaceae and Solonaceae.
