Ulmus americana 'Brandon'
Blackened bark on the tree
Wetlands turf area
Scale like insects which caused sooty mold to develop causing the black discolouration on the bark of the tree. The mold is caused by a fungus that is their due to the insects. Treating the insects will get rid of the mold. The insect is mainly on the north side of the tree. The tree is in a well that doesn't appear too compacted and looks like it was planted properly.
