Mango Leafhopper

Idioscopus clypealis

Description:

The Mango Leafhopper is a very tiny insect, but it is considered to be a serious pest of Mango Plantations. As far as I know, there are two species present in the Philippines (please see Notes below). When these Leafhoppers are mature adults, the differences between Idioscopus clypealis and Idioscopus nitidulus are fairly easy to distinguish, but the Mango Leafhoppers in my photos are (I think) nymphs and I am not absolutely sure, but I think they are I. clypealis.

Habitat:

Spotted these Mango Leafhoppers, in the farm, on the leaves of a Mango (Mangifera indica Linn.) known in the Philippines as Mangang-kalabau. Plant information from - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Mangga.html........

Notes:

Confirmation of presence of Idioscopus spp. in Philippines: https://www.cabidigitallibrary.org/doi/f....... I. clypealis https://idtools.dpi.nsw.gov.au/keys/leaf........ I. nitidulus
