This is fish was approximately 12cm in length, and was rusty brown in colour. It was very spiny, and had a big head. I have caught smaller ones closer to shore, and at first I thought they were some sort of blenny, but I think it is more likely a species of sculpin, maybe a longhorn sculpin?
The fish was caught in a minnow trap baited with bread about 12 feet off shore, in about 7ft of water. The bottom was mostly sandy, with some large rocks and metal debris. I was located near a saltwater inlet off the Atlantic Ocean.
