Starling

Description:

Starlings are one of most common bird around, they are present all year around and can be seen everywhere around us, so I often neglect to count them. However, I find them spectacular during the winter or early in the spring, when their colours are still fresh after the summer moult. Starlings moult once a year, and those speckled aspect below and golden-buff above will wear off gradually.

Habitat:

Seen on and around our feeders, in the backyard of our residence building, at outskirts of a small urban center in Geneva lake valley. The backyard counts a number of deciduous trees and shrubs, most of them spontaneous and local, some planted. The backyard neighbours a meadow (used for producing hay) and a lowland deciduous (mainly oak and beech) forest, and some other agricultural fields.
