Cushion Sea Star

Oreaster reticulatus

Description:

A seastar or starfish found snorkeling 50m offshore. Enchinodermata Oreaster reticulatus

Habitat:

The seastar was found on a rippled sandy seafloor. The shallowest at perhaps 4m and deepest seen around 10m.

Notes:

I picked this one up to show some snorkelers who could not get off the surface. I put it back at about the same depth. Some of the locals were seen taking these if they were found in the shallows. Our best guess was to make market art or jewelry. Thanks for the I.D. LivanEscudero
