Trembling Aspen

Populus tremuloides

Description:

Smooth, white bark with characteristic black scars where lower branches self-pruned. Leaves are round and generally heart shaped. In the spring and summer, leaves are generally green, but in fall turn yellow, gold, and sometimes but rarely red.

Habitat:

Moist soil in clearings or along the edges of pine and spruce or fir forests. Needs lots of sunlight.
