White-faced Ibis

Plegadis chihi

Description:

Migrating through California twice a year.
Small, dark, wading birds. Long dark legs and long downward curved bills. During breeding season a white face mask will show.

Habitat:

During winter, marsh, rice ponds, flooded fields and shallow water.

Notes:

Observed that though the Ibis were in the same areas and rice ponds of the other species (swans and geese) they prefer to stay separate and flocked only to themselves and may move to different ponds where they could be alone.
