Autumn Yellow-winged Grasshopper

Description:

Probably a female (which are 36-46 mm), males are smaller (31-38 mm). Dark brown with a lighter band on the hind leg femur. The high pronotal crest and the time of year help identify this species.

Habitat:

Spotted along the Fourche La Fave River near Lake Nimrod. Found in eastern and central United States.

Notes:

Feeds mostly on grasses.
