That looks about right. Thanks Aaron. now I'm really glad I didnt mess with the nest to much... I was using my finger. :)
Im a little surprised, as she is really out in the open above my garage. I have always seen the black widows and (occasionally) brown widows in dark and secluded areas.
I think they have all hatched for the season at this point. :) but hey, always next year. :)
they hatched at room temperature, so I would immagine they would do fine as long as they didnt get to cold.
Cammie... I think you are probably right. all I can say is that I found these little eggs all over the place in the garage.... there are a bunch out there, but they are real ninjas and super quick. :)
Have you noticed these when they are babies? early next spring, be on the look out for black small grasshoppers with either a red or yellow strip down thier back. that's how they start and will be come these critters by the end of summer.
I live in Jacksonville and we have a lot of them. my neighbor is on a crusade to massacre them because she is convinced they are not native. i'm still trying to educate her. :)
defiantly a mayfly.... little suckers pupate from water larvae (like a dragon fly) and like to do it ALL at the same time. (at least in my experience.) had THOUSANDS come out of Lake Santa Fe in Melrose florida one night this past summer and the exoskelatons literally filled the beach. kinda cool.
