A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Never heard the name rain spider before this. Cool find! Are you going to keep it around to photograph the babies?
Link in ID is to an info page about L viridis in the USA. I think I've seen reference to them found in Singapore as well.
Reminds me of Dolomedes triton, aside from being translucent green.
That's pretty cool Carol! I thought it looked quite similar to mine. :) Nice picture!
Great spiders! I've seen C. conica here in Michigan. Good shots, close pics are very difficult on there for sure!
I believe Manval is on the right track here. This isn't a crab spider, but it may be some form of Agelenid. Hard to say without a good shot of the eyes.
I don't have a clue on the species, but if I saw this in the wild, I'd probably call it the Mario Mushroom beetle.
Not sure about on the islands, but the Argiopes that I've seen here don't always weave the stabilimentum.
mauna, I have a comparison shot between adolescent and adult female A. trifasciata on my page...

I would compare yours with adult A. appensa.
I'm curious to see what you two come up with.
Good call Atul. Thanks for the ID. :)
I was thinking this was an argiope as well. I'm wondering though, could this simply be a young female? The young A. trifasciata here in Michigan look quite different from the adults, but they often perch in the same position on similar webbing.
