I wonder if it is an ornate box turtle, the top of the carapace is flattened compared to most T. carolina specimens I've seen.Peterson's field guide gives that as a diagnostic identifying characteristic. Could be outside its normal range if someone released it or it escaped captivity.

Nice photo of the plumage. I really enjoy watching Reddish Egrets using the dancing behavior with wings out spread to herd fish. Siesta Key is one of my favorite beaches in Florida.

Nice photos. You mention that it is a small Phasmid. Is that small for the species or small for the genus? How large do they get? The stick insects I've encountered in Florida are generally 2-6". Appreciate any info you can provide.
