I meet these on a daily basis as a couple of them have taken up permanent residence in the dining room of the canteen at my workplace 😃😃

Yes the egg was intended as food but the shikra was not interested in it at all. I finally fed it raw meat stripped from bones.
The main trouble I faced was that the baby was not eating by itself when given the food. Then someone advised me to try and feed it by hand which was an extremely difficult task. The trick was to cover the eyes with a towel, which immediately calmed it down and it started eating out of my hands 🙂

Sorry for the late reply, this was spotted in the tropical rainforests of the Western Ghats in India at the peak of the monsoon. It was growing on a dead tree trunk which was also a host to a number of ferns.
Agumbe is the second wettest place in India, experiencing an average annual rainfall of around 7000mm.
