Sean Uhl Jewel Bug
Jewel Bug commented on by Sean Uhl Gangtok, Sikkim, India8 years ago

I'm pretty sure this is a type of Shield Back bug (not a beetle!) I'm going to look around online and see if I can find the name of the genus and species. They are what they call "true bugs" and if I remember right the family is Hemptera or something like that.

Hmm...hard to tell it makes me think of a type of Collybia but I doubt that is correct (for one just because they are said to be rare in the U.S.). Really need to see the underside of the cap as well to really help narrow it down by eliminating certain other possibilities. I don't see any sign of a veil or ring (though it might be closer to the cap and just not visible in this image); I believe Honey Mushrooms do have a ring and they usually grow in clusters on stumps and logs. In this pic there are also features common to some Entolomas too and some common Lawn Mushrooms.

Sean Uhl Sasanqua Camellia - "Autumn Pink Icicle"
Sasanqua Camellia - "Autumn Pink Icicle" commented on by Sean Uhl North Carolina, USA8 years ago

There was an error when I suggested the ID and it appears the reference links did not post so I will post them again here
http://treeinpot.com/Treeinpot/Nursery/C...
I got the scientific name from Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camellia_s...
The leaves of the plant immediately made me think Camellia and the flower too kind of but I wasn't 100% sure. I live in Alabama and the Camellia is our state flower but the one in this photo is slightly different from what I am used to seeing grow around here.
