the powderiness reminds me of the onion-stalked lepiota. there were some growing in a crown heights lawn just a few weeks ago, big clusters of them.

Grisette sorta thing? Some kinda of Amanita I think, it looks like you can just barely see the cup it sits in.

Hi Gary, I was pretty lazy about this and just took pictures. It looked like some of the spring time stuff I was seeing in the BBG mulched areas. The younger ones around them seemed to have redder caps, cobwebby veil and likewise clustered. I'm not aware of manure in the mulch but perhaps there is, I don't know.

Hi Gary, Yes on the southside of Brooklyn Botanic Garden, in the planted area south of the pond. There were two clusters of these but it was a ways inside the planting and BBG is very strict so this is a photo taken from maybe 10 feet away.
