I'm attempting to grow these using pieces of the mushrooms I found in a container of used coffee grounds. Thank you Dean at www.montanamushrooms.com for the 2nd opinion on I.D.

Thanks Argybee! I posted another picture showing the flakes that cover these mushrooms. They are usually washed off by rain so I consider myself lucky to have caught them before that happened.

Most likely in the Genus Mycena. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycena

I agree, it looks like a young Laetiporus sulphureus.

I've eaten them in the past and I know several people who still do but they are considered poisonous by most experts. They have a chemical in them similar to ones used in rocket fuel manufacturing. Has been known to be fatal according to Audubon North American Field Guide. I've decided to let them be.
