I would guess the attachments are abnormal. It just seems too asymmetrical to be a natural part of the caterpillars body. I can tell from comparing the photos that the caterpillar is moving, though. Is it normal for caterpillars to eat dead leaves like this?
In my opinion this is convincing evidence for intelligent design.
I want to eat one. Are they edible?
I'm surprised I've never heard of this bird before. According to the wikipedia article "the male kori bustard may be the heaviest living animal capable of flight". Impressive record!
