They lay multiple generations throughout the summer then migrate south in September. Look for black, white, and yellow striped caterpillars on the milkweed. I believe you can get a glimpse of the migration up high in the mountains.

Nice spot. Butterfly weed is a type of milkweed. This is where monarch butterflies lay eggs.
