Thank you. I think it was the two dozen attempts at getting a good shot that kept him agitated.
One of the earliest species I learned the scientific name for, and still get all nerdy correcting people who call them "chameleons". Very common around my home in NE GA, as well.
Not sure of the exact species, perhaps Cornus florida. Common here as landscape plant but also in understory of forested areas
