A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Often these shots are the result of being in the right place at the right time and being prepared. It's difficult to plan one like this unless you're seeing the same action occurring over and over. When I shot this, I was seeing different sea birds taking off from the water so it was just a matter of catching one at the right moment.
I added another image for this species sighting.
I added a couple new pictures of this species.
Thank you for the species suggestion. I've added it to the sighting.
Nice captures. Especially nice that you managed to get a Black-crowned Night Heron next to a Snowy Egret.
Thank you, Dragan.
I particularly like the water drops flying off the bird as it had just taken off from the surface of the ocean. The reflection on the water helps, too.
Thank you, Pierre. I should have looked more closely at it. I've updated the name and species info.
I can't say I have. I've only seen a couple of them in my life, and never at very close range.
Black Vulture would be my guess as well. Notice the white color peeking through on the outer primary flight feathers. The rest of the wing is black.
I saw this llama in the El Cajas National Park in Ecuador.
