Thanks Brian. I went to Akito Kawahara's lecture last year here in Tallahassee. Sponsored by the Tallahassee Scientific Society. The research they are doing on butterflies and moths was impressive. The Butterfly Rainforest exhibit in Gainesville, Florida is worth a visit if any PN members visit Florida. https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/exhibi...
The Carolina Wrens they used in their research are abundant in our yard. They seem to b e breeding year round here now. They must consume an incredible amount of insects and spiders .
Good suggestion Arne. I have added that mission.
Thanks jhbd
I just now noticed your comment Scott. I don't have any photos of eggs or young. I shouldn't have included the parental care mission. I guess I did based on my notes. Confusing. Sorry
Some days you just get lucky. It was hard to miss right in front of our front door.
http://www.bentwoodranch.com/. Maybe related. Just joking. But driving the country roads of Florida longhorn cattle are pretty common.
This species feeds on such a wide variety of plants it could be found anywhere. I expect this one was looking for a place to pupate.
This species is common in our garden. The most photogenic of the skippers here I think. I've spotted it before.
It was a beast. I wonder if anyone has an idea what kind of insect it has in it's mouth.
