Eastern Rosella

Platycercus eximius

Description:

A multi-coloured parrot about 1 foot in length. It has a red head and upper chest. White cheeks and beautifully striated greenish back. The lower abdomen is a bright yellow which merges into green lower down. The underside of the tail is red. Both flight and tail feathers have blue colouring.

Habitat:

Lightly wooded areas. These ae native to south-eastern Australia and Tasmania

Notes:

They stay well clear of areas where you find the crimson rosellas - that's what I've observed and they are more difficult to photograph. Eastern Rosellas feed on seeds and flowers

Yes, its a beautiful pattern. This is one of my favorite birds and less common usually than the crimson cousin. I agree that they're not often compatible with each other and these seem to be less dominant.
