Solidago
The Goldenrod is a wildflower that is commonly considered a weed. This weed is tall enough to fit perfectly in the shrub layer. The Solidago plant consists of a long stem that is hairless with alternate linear-lanceolate shaped leaves that are serrated. Linear-lanceolate leaves means the leaves are "very slender" and taper to an "acute tip".
The Solidago is commonly found in North America. Sandy soil and a strong source of sun are the primary attributes to this plants habitat. Competition is not preferred so it usually settles in areas with other peaceful species. This plant is often found by the water but naturally expands inland as well.
