Spotting

Description:

White to gray thallus with black, globular ascoma. Growing alongside a few other lichen species.

Habitat:

On smooth rock on the shore of Bird Rock, a very small island in Uyak Bay right above Spiridon Bay that I'd guess is only a little over 150 square meters. Home to beach ryegrass, stinging nettle, and some other plants and small organisms. Many Arctic terns and some surfbirds, oystercatchers, and Black Turnstones were here. On some other nearby rocks there were also Horned Puffins, a crow, and many gulls as well as some Harbor Seals.

Thanks mauna. Someone in one of my Lichen groups on Facebook suggested that it could also be Herteliana alaskana but I doubt I will get a positive ID without microscopic inspection :/

This is most likely one of the Lecideaceae. Possibly Porpidia sp.!
