Coccinella Californica
This is the first time I have seen a lady bug with a VERTICAL LINE running thru it. i have seen banded and spotted ladybugs ,different colored lady bugs, but this seems unusual to me. I spotted this lady bug in the Foot hills of Mt Diablo.
added to Global School Yard Bio Blitz mission.
Spotted at North Gate High School.
Beautiful link, Misako. They may be common but you are the first one on PN to have spotted these. Now there are only 3 spottings in the PN ladybug collection.
Well I thought it was unusual ,that I wrote to Yasser about it. Common as they might be there are only 3 spottings in the PN lady bug collection. So they must be rare!
i am also part of the Cornell research on lady bugs and according to them the most rare are the 2 spotted and the 9 spotted. I submitted a picture of this to them. Lets say what they say about this. Because out of the 160, 000 ladybugs they have i did not see this listed. Will keep you informed.
@Emma: I see them all the time in Berkeley, Richmond, and San Ramon. Here is a link of photos:

thanks Misako. I scanned thru the PN collection for an Id . Did not see any there.
Also I punched in Lady bug wit vertical line, on google search but did not see anything. Really appreciate the help in ID.
Have you seen one before? I fit is known as California Lady beetle, should be fairly common here though.
Thanks so much!!
