Leaf beetle

Paropsisterna morio

Description:

This large shiny beetle was found under bark of a manna gum. The red/brown color is enhanced in the second and third images to show brown lines that are hardly visible in natural daylight. Morio is described as sometimes being red/brown and having stripes which we expect to see only in vittata and octomaculata.

Notes:

The species paropsisterna morio is an educated and partially impatient guess and I enter it with a caution. I will research the black versions of these nocturnal types and describe their various differences .
