Red breasted sapsucker

Syhyrapicus ruber

Habitat:

Rural area with lots of douglas fir, cedar, maple, oak & cottonwood trees. This is one of two that arrived together, the other one landed on a stake in a planter on my deck, but flew into a nearby tree when I grabbed my camera. This one was perched on the back of the satellite dish & spent some time there, pecking loudly on the metal dish!

Thank you both! He came right up to my livingroom window, I didn't even open the door, just shot through my sliding glass door, which is why it's a bit muted.
