Southern Ostrich

Struthio camelus australis

Description:

Male southern ostrich; black feathers and white primaries.

Habitat:

Namib desert: sand dunes for miles and extra dry valleys. The ostrich could adapt to all sub-Saharan habitats.

Notes:

Ostrich was once farmed for its feathers in the Little Karoo area of Cape Province. It is now for the leather and meat.
