Description:

Perennial herb up to 24 in. tall. Leaves mostly basal, deeply divided into several narrow oblong-linear segments. Flowers blue, 1-1.5 in. long, bilaterally symmetrical, spurred; 3 ovaries are borne in a loose terminal raceme. Blooms March-May. Poisonous when ingested.

Habitat:

Damp to dry woods and barrens in eastern USA. Prefers calcareous soil.
