This is definitely not a salamander. The eyes are set wrong. If you look at the photo of the suggested salamander, the eyes bulge out. With the specimen above, the eyes are set under a protective brow. This has all the hallmarks of a skink. I believe this is a ground skink (Scincella lateralis).
