Giant Case-Maker Caddisflies

Description:

An aquatic larval form; the case varies based on habitat and species. The case also provides anchorage and protection through both camouflage and durability. Upon pupation they close the case with a perforated door to allow water in for respiration.

Habitat:

Along the shores of a mesotrophic lake in the Laurentian Mixed Forest ecoregion of Minnesota.

Notes:

Identified to family (Phryganeidae); taken through a microscope.
