Marine Blue

Leptotes marina

Description:

I really like the scalloped pattern on the wings. There are two spots with a blue ring that reminds me of a peacock. This is one of the "Blues" that are part of the Hairstreak family. "Wing span: 7/8 - 1 1/8 inches (2.2 - 2.9 cm). Upperside blue; male with purple tinge, female with no white. Underside of forewing with unbroken pale brown bands from costa to inner margin." - BugGuide

Habitat:

On fallen Bougainvillea flowers, Pomelo tree leaf and Muhully grass in backyard. There was mud next to both after watering flowers. "Southern California east through the Southwest, Mexico and Baja California to Guatemala. Wanders and temporarily colonizes north to Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, and Louisiana. (Season) April-September in the north, all through the year in South Texas and southern California." - BugGuide
