I have always wondered what kind of spider this was. Somehow he lost a leg... His body was about the size of my hand!

A wolf spider, I think. Photogenic little critter :)
Too bad about its leg. Maybe if it molts it will get a new leg in its next instar. (I don't know if that's how it is with spiders, though.)
