American White Pelican

Pelecanus erythrorhynchos

Description:

very large, stocky, white bird; long, orange bill and throat pouch; black primary and secondary wing feathers; short tail; naked, orange skin patch around eyes. Breeding: small, keeled plate develops on upper mandible (top beak); pale, yellow crest on back of head. Nonbreeding and immature: white plumage is tinged with brown.
