Zebra Heliconian Butterflies

Description:

Black butterflies with white stripes an small red markings.

Habitat:

This was taken at the Nicaragua Butterfly Reserve in Granada but they are native to that area.

Notes:

Interesting bit of info about them, "Males patrol for females, and are also attracted to female chrysalids. A male will wait on the chrysalis and mate with the female as she is about to emerge.
