Destroying Angel

Amanita bisporigera

Description:

Deadly mushroom - eating one is supposed to cause a very slow and painful death. http://www.mushroomexpert.com/amanita_bi...

Habitat:

Near the campsites in Mineral Wells State Park next to a treeline. LBMs and puffballs nearby. Lots of decaying vegetation nearby.

Notes:

This could be what has been called Amanita virosa. The distinction between the two has to do with the number of spores produced by the basidia but A. bisporigera has been reported to have changed from 2 to 4-spore bearing basidia during a season so it is thought that they are the same.
