Eastern screech owl (red phase)

Megascops asio

Description:

Ridiculously cute little owl! Even when it regurgitated a pellet onto my (thankfully gauntleted) hand! You can see the action in photo 5!

Habitat:

Reelfoot Visitors Center

Notes:

This little owl was brought in with a broken wing & cannot be released so is now an educational bird at the center.

Good idea! They're like little Great Horned's! Their talons would go right through the skin! Wouldn't be fun!

Christy, she was so beautiful but had lots of attitude too - hence the reason they suggested I wore the glove!

He's beautiful too! We rarely see the red-phase...what a color!! I'm glad you experienced that, Karen! ;-)
