American Lady Butterfly

Vanessa virginiensis

Description:

5 cm (2 inch) wingspan beautiful yellow, orange and dark brown. White dot in orange FW means this is an American Lady. No white dot, Painted Lady.

Habitat:

Flower meadows near mountains

Notes:

Some butterfly sites call this butterfly American Painted Lady not to be confused with the Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui) I was very confused by this ID, so it always is good to look at the scientific name.
