Magnificent hummingbird

Eugenes fulgens

Description:

This large, long-bill hummingbird occurs in the highlands from the southwestern United States south to western Panama. Most populations are resident, but the species migrates south from the northern part of the range in the nonbreeding season, and even as far south as Costa Rica it may undertake seasonal elevational movements as well. The sexes are strikingly different in plumage, and there also is some geographic variation within Magnificent Hummingbird.

Habitat:

Seen at Providencia, Dota (Cerro de la Muerte area, 1800 mts elevation)
