Common Chaffinch; Pinzón vulgar

Fringilla coelebs

Female. The Common Chaffinch's large double white wing bars, white tail edges and greenish rump easily identify this 14–16 cm long species. The breeding male is unmistakable, with his reddish underparts and a blue-grey cap. The female is drabber and greener, but still obvious. Eats insects in summer, mostly caterpillars from foliage; otherwise takes seeds, shoots, and berries; visits bird-tables for seed mixtures, especially sunflower seeds. Direct flight, quite quick, undulating; with bursts of wingbeats between glides with wings closed

Habitat:

Spottted at an evergreen oak and pine tree forest. Dehesa de Valdelatas

Notes:

Camera Model: NIKON D500. Exposure Time: 1/500 sec.; f/5.6; ISO Speed Rating: 720. Focal Length: 300.0 mm. No flash fired. DSC_2908
