Queensland Spotted Pyrgomorph

Greyacris profundesulcata

Description:

A spectacular grasshopper, Greyacris profundesulcata, commonly known as the Queensland Spotted Pyrgomorph, is an Australian native species that belongs to the family Pyrgomorphidae. I thought this may have been a nymph or juvenile due to the wing stubs, but this is actually an adult. This one was kind enough to stop while I took a few photos.

Habitat:

I spotted this grasshopper along a sandy track at the Lake Broadwater Conservation Park.... https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/lake-... This is a very flat area in a region known as the Darling Downs. Dalby is the nearest town. NB: Just a little over 12 months ago and the lake was completely dry and bushland totally parched due to the massive drought that Australia experienced. It's wonderful to see how the lake and surrounding bushland has recovered. Birdlife was abundant, and vegetation was green and lush - perfect habitat for insects like grasshoppers!

She was a character. My uncle knew her quite well as she did many charity events for the RPA in Sydney where he worked. People just adored her :)

Not as fancy as Jeannie Little's garbage bag gown or the fabulous seagull gown. Tres chic on both counts!

Don't laugh at the wings. They're the latest thing from Paris.
