Oenanthe hispanica
This Black-eared Wheatear is a small bird, roughly the size of house sparrow. Males are notable for their striking plumage, a bold cobination of white to lightly buff ase with black stripe extending from the beak through the eyes to the ears, resembling an ear patch; and black wing primaries. There is also another male colour form, with throat also black (this form was not seen). Females and juveniles are generally less boldly marked, with browner tones and a less distinct black ear-patch.
Primarily found in the western Mediterranean region, Oenanthe hispanica is found in open, stony, and often hilly landscapes - exactly like here, in Chichaoua province near Marakech. It prefers areas with sparse vegetation which can provide good visibility for spotting prey. Common habitats include Mediterranean scrublands, pastures, and rocky hillsides.
And a lifer for me!.
