Prairie crayfish

Procambarus gracilis

Description:

Procambarus can be distinguished from other genera of crayfish by the form of the first pleopod in males, which typically has three or more processes at the tip, compared to two or fewer in Orconectes and Cambarus.

Notes:

I often see this species crossing roads or walking in flooded roadside ditches in the spring/summer months.

Thanks for this Goody. I had no idea whether other continents had land crays. In Australia they are generally called 'yabbies' and unfortunately for them they are delicious - as I suspect these ones are.
