Koala Scat

Phascolarctos cinereus

Description:

Pellet composed of chiefly compressed plant fibre 2 to 3 cm and bullet or barrel shaped. Dark olive to dark khaki. Should not contain hair or fur such as wombat scats although this one is on a branch a wombat's bottom could not reach anyway

Habitat:

Along a slender ridge of remnant coastal woodland under very severe invasion by weeds and dogs and people. This is a tiny island in suburban coastal sprawl and the signs of Koala are both surprising and concerning

Notes:

I have been finding these scat every now and again and wondering what was tough enough to survive the cats and dogs and invasive plants and foxes. Unfortunately only the least likely specimen was photographed and all the others were passed up before I awoke to the possibility. There was a koala roaring one night when I was hunting moths along the ridge but I did not believe it. Further search required I guess
