Moss Phlox

Description:

Five heart shaped petals per flower. White with purple near center, or purple with dark purple near center. Waxy needle-like leaves. Low-growing. Great variety of shape and color in different patches. The smaller (middle) Phlox may be Sand phlox (Phlox bifida) which is smaller with deeply cleft petals that make it look like a 10-point star. They are low-growing.

Habitat:

sunny field with well-drained soil

Notes:

They come back every year.

Hi KarenL, these are wildflowers that I am trying to identify. Many people have posted these wildflowers but there are several varieties and I am trying to narrow down the three types growing in my fields. Have I misunderstood something?
