Anhinga

Anhinga anhinga

Description:

Larger size bird w/ males being mostly black w/ some white tail feathers, and the back of the head have some feathers that appear grayish. On its back and wings it is spotted or streaked w/ white.

Habitat:

It is found in many parts of the Americas that have warmer waters. This particular specimen was observed in a city nature park, itself located in the middle of urban sprawl. It was drying on a branch of a tree at the edge of a lake/pond used for runoff that had a significant overhang. It was approx. 10-15 feet off a boardwalk that encircled the lake/pond.

Nice that you could get one of the bird drying/airing out its wings. Could you please put in the habitat section where you actually have seen your spottings rather than just a general description of where they can be found? Thanks in advance!
