Common Raven

Corvus corax

Description:

Common ravens are large (63 cm (25 in) in length), very intelligent, all black birds. Bills are large and heavy, which helps to distinguish them from crows. Sexes are similar.

Habitat:

Common Ravens are widely distributed across the northern hemisphere in many different environments.

Notes:

Ravens in Yellowstone National Park have learned to take handouts from people, but have also learned to raid picnics and even unzip coolers and panniers mounted on snow machines. Clever birds and among the smartest! This particular individual was at a pullout overlooking Yellowstone Lake and he was certainly looking for a handout....
