Description:

Brightly colored barbet with heavy yellow bill with bristles at base. Maroon crown with violet blue, black head. Bright scarlet patch under tail. - Salim Ali, The book of Indian Birds.

Habitat:

Subtropical evergreen and moist-temperate forests. 1000 to 3000 m Himalayas.

thanks Arun. These birds have been pretty busy these days. Singing at top of the trees on top of their voice. Sometimes alone, sometimes in group of three or four. The whole mountain rings to their tune.
