Red-tailed Hawk (female)

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

A Red-tailed Hawk redux. I posted another spotting of this hawk that featured a few photos of the bird flapping its wings. This spotting features several "headshots" and close-ups of the hawk: Photo 4 highlights the hawk's red tail (a beautiful shade of cinnamon); Photo 5 shows its talons. Habitat:

The Raptor Conservancy of Virginia. This beautiful "teaching bird" has several disabilities that make it unsuitable for release to the wild: the hawk was probably hit by a car, causing multiple wing injuries; the bird is almost non-flighted as a result. Related Resource: http://www.raptorsva.org
